Here’s to our brand new non-alcoholic event! As we did before at the Pub Crawl, we are going from one place to another. However this time in order to give three masterpieces of Turkish culinary culture a try: "Boza" along with roasted chickpeas, "gazoz", and "baklava"!
Boza is a fermented beverage made from grains such as corn, wheat, and millet. It is high in calories and since it is known to give warmth to the human body, it has been a favorite of the cold winter days.
Gazoz is Turkey’s eclectic soft drink similar to soda. Like wine, each town has its own climate and water which goes into a bottle of gazoz. Long before American cold beverages entered Anatolia, local gazoz producers offered unique tastes with several flavors and colors which was a source of pride.
There is a Turkish proverb saying that “let’s eat sweets and talk sweet" which basically means talking about nice things after eating dessert. Of all Turkey’s sweet confectionary, the most famous is baklava which is traditionally made by filling between the layers of dough with pistachios.
This Saturday on February 23, firstly, we are going to go to Vefa Bozacısı, a place that has been serving boza since 1876. Then we are going to head for Karaköy to eat baklava as drinking our gazoz on the way.
Join us for a day full of sweet memories both figuratively and literally!
We will meet at 12:00 PM in front of the South Campus gate.
We highly recommend eating breakfast first!
