On our next Istanbul weekend trip, we are introducing you to Turkish delicacies that have now become an inseparable part of the city. On our journey to seek out these traditional flavours, we will be walking along some of the nicest places in Istanbul. On our menu for Sunday, we have "gazoz", "balık ekmek" and, as you would've guessed, "baklava"!

We will first start off with gazoz, which is Turkey’s eclectic soft drink similar to soda. Like wine, each town has its own climate and water which goes into a bottle of gazoz. Long before American cold beverages entered Anatolia, local gazoz producers offered unique tastes with several flavors and colors which was a source of pride. After you pick one from over a hundred options, we will walk through the old city streets of Vefa as we sip on our cold beverages.

Next up will be our lunch with "balık ekmek", which can be directly translated as "fish-bread". You will see that Eminönü coast is full of little shops and vendors that serve grilled fish straight from the sea, sandwiched between bread and some salad. This is undeniably one of the most popular street food options in İstanbul.

There is a Turkish proverb saying “let’s eat sweets and talk sweet" which basically means having a nice conversation as you have dessert. Of all of Turkey’s sweet confectionery, the most famous is baklava which is traditionally made by filling between the layers of dough with pistachios. It is an iconic treat that has not went out of style in hundreds of years.

On July 28, we will take a nice walking trip from Vefa to Eminönü to Karaköy as we treat ourselves. Join us for a day full of good food and good company!
